After spending money purchasing pay per click advertising to drive traffic to my site, I have decided to focus on free (or almost free / low cost payments) marketing principles. I recommend using PPC to create instant Web traffic to your site as a backup plan, like in case a search engine changes its algorithm and drop your site ranking.

The 5 main principles of Internet marketing as I see them are:
Site Optimization, Link Building, Article marketing, Email marketing and Viral marketing.
You do not need to have a site of your own in order to make money online, you can promote other people's sites, as an affiliate and earn very nice commissions, but for the long run, it is better that you have your own sites and products. Or at list have your own blog (use WordPress!).

Once you have a list of interested potential customers you can send emails or create e-newsletter for distribution to the members of your email list. Create e-books and give them as a free gift. Embeds your affiliate links and your site's url, into these e-books. When readers e-mail your e-books to their friends, they will make your links spread virally for free. during time you will get more and more traffic to the sites you are promoting. You can offer your free e-book in your site or at the link in your article, as a gift to build your e mail list. You can also use this principle by making a special or funny video clip, put a link in or near the clip, to the page you promote and upload the clip into YouTube.

We have discussed the several free ways in which you can start market online or have an increased online presence. Using these 5 Internet marketing principles you can launch a full scale marketing campaign. The best and effective way to do this is to combine these principles.

Finally, the response to an Internet marketing campaign can be evaluated by carefully reviewing site traffic statistics after implementing changes to the marketing strategy. This information is useful because an unusual spike in the amount of site traffic immediately after implementing a stage of the marketing campaign can provide positive feedback that the change was well received by potential customers.
