Digital Camera: The Future of Cameras

The absence of films defines what a digital camera is. It does not entail any mechanical or chemical process, unlike its analog counterpart. The digital camera records moving images and has a built-in computer translating images into electronic form. It is so convenient, it doesn't even use electricity.

Images in a digital camera are converted into the electronic language, something a computer could understand. This is called pixels. Pixels are basically tiny dots constituted of ones and zeroes filling up your whole picture. But, like the analog camera, digital cameras are also designed with a system of lenses to focus light and create the image you wish to capture. Among their many differences is the transfer of image from light. Digital cameras focuses light on a semiconductor and records light in electronic form, and analog ones focuses light on film. The built-in computer in a digital camera breaks this light into digital data made possible by all the features of the digital camera.

The digital camera has a sensor to convert light into electrical charges, the charge coupled device or CCD. However, low-end digital cameras substitute the CCD for a cheaper CMOS or the complementary oxide semiconductor. The CMOS has increasingly become more popular and might replace the CCD in the future.

The CCD is a system of diodes that collect electrons when struck by light particles or photons. Each diode, technically called a photo site, is light sensitive and gathers light particles at a higher rate as brightness increases.

With the rise of the CMOS to popularity, digital cameras are rapidly becoming cheap. The CMOS is relatively less expensive to manufacture than the CCD sensors. As for performance, the CCD and CMOS work similarly, however, at first. They both transform electrical charges through the photo sites, but they do it in two different methods.

In the search for the best digital camera, it is important to take these things into consideration:

Image quality. A higher resolution enlarges the picture without the grainy or out-of-focus effect we all want to avoid.

Lens. Choose a digital camera with a better digital zoom. The digital zoom of the camera takes the pixels from the image sensor and collate them into an image.

Power. Always choose rechargeable batteries, they are always handy.
Options. Better select the one that suits your lifestyle to obtain the images you really want.

Memory. For a photo freak, think 512MB
Computer Interface. Your digital camera should always be compatible with your computer.

Physical. Always go for the portable and easy to carry around ones.

These are just some of the basic features to look for in a digital camera. There can be so much that this gadget can offer, and indeed, it is the future of cameras the future of photography.
