Antioxidants are substances found in a variety of foods that work on the side of healthy cells to fight against free radicals. Much as an army will enlist soldiers to fight on their behalf, cells under attack rely on antioxidants as their soldiers of health. Finding an adequate source of antioxidants comes down to diet. And finding foods high in antioxidants is as simple as getting to the nearest grocery store.

Foods containing high amounts of antioxidants include some fruits and vegetables - green leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale delivering significant amounts of the antioxidant lutein;
tomatoes and tomato products carrying the antioxidant lycopene; fruits such as blueberries strawberries, and many other berries, kiwi, prunes, and pink grapefruit; vegetables rich in the antioxidant beta-carotene including carrots and sweet potatoes; and foods containing Vitamins A, C, and E.

To find more foods containing high amounts of antioxidants do your research. Many fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants that are good for your body. You may also try eating nuts and spices. Many kinds of nuts and spices contain antioxidants and taste good too.

Finding the rights foods takes time and determination for a healthier life. You may spend more time at the super market than you really want to, but it will be beneficial to you and your family. Spices are generally consumed in small amounts, yet are high in antioxidants. On the basis of antioxidant concentration, ground cloves, ground cinnamon and oregano were the highest among the spices studied. Find some antioxidant foods today and be happy and healthy. You will feel more energetic and less stressed.

If you plan to add higher antioxidant foods to your diet, be sure to do so slowly, don’t over do it. Don't only eat foods that are high antioxidant foods, because you also need to consume complex carbohydrates including whole grains, brown rice and cereals; proteins such as lean meats and fish, along with other vegetables and fruits. Keep in mind that eating well balanced meals will help your body with vitamins and minerals that are also necessary in the production of antioxidants as well as in overall health.
