Watching Your Daily Calorie Intake

Millions of people start new fad diet each and every day. Unfortunately these fad diets are only good for short periods of time, not for long term use by any means. The best weight loss method I have found to be helpful is calorie counting. This may seem like a job itself but it really is not that hard to handle.

If you are like me and work in a busy office all day and have no time what so ever to think about eating healthy come lunch time. We are all sadly mistaken. The truth is that eating healthy and counting your calories doesn’t have to be so hard, all you have to so is think about where you are eating for lunch and then what items on the menu sound the best.

If you are a fast food type of person like I am (I eat fast food everyday for lunch and sometimes dinner) then you should start counting your calories. Many restaurants these days offer a calorie menu. This will break down each item or combo item listed on the menu. If you are unable to access the chart yourself, don’t be afraid to ask the cashier if they have one you can look at.

When eating with your family and friends, you should still be skeptical about what you order. If you are dining at a nice restaurant that offers salad and bread sticks for an appetizer, feel free to dig in. Watch the amounts of cheese and dressing you put on your salad and the butter put on the bread stick. Salad dressing contains high numbers of calories and some sugars. Even light dressings contain sugars and calories.

If this restaurant offers pasta dishes, by all means explore them. Try to avoid the chicken with everything on it. Pasta has fewer calories than chicken and all the fixings. For example, Linguine Alla Marinara (spaghetti and sauce) with a bread stick has approximately 691 calories per serving. The stuffed chicken with garlic mashed potatoes has approximately 1,315 calories. Add in your drinks, water has zero calories; soda has approximately 180 calories per 12 ounce serving. When you are out eating you have a glass of soda which is usually about 2 servings, that makes your calories even higher 180+180=360 calories in one glass of soda pop, then you have to factor in the refills and the beer or wine you also had with dinner.

After seeing this would you rather have the salad and pasta with a glass of water, or would you rather have the salad stuffed chicken with everything, and a glass of soda? My choice would be the obvious one, pasta. I am not trying to lose weight by any means; I am just trying to keep it off.

Before you pig out on the best looking dish in the restaurant, think about the consequences; eat an awesome dinner tonight and have to work it off at the gym tomorrow, or eat healthy with fewer calories and less workout time. The choice is yours; I just hope you make the right one for you.
