Diets are meant for adults to be able lose pounds and get on the road to be healthier and more active. However, diets are not meant for children because it can lead to an unhealthy lifestyle.

If a child feels the need to lose weight, they should become more active. Instead of walking from school, try running. Joining physical sports such as basketball, football, soccer, or track, will help burn the necessary calories, helping your child feel better about themselves.

People forget to factor in genetics which plays the biggest role in the way your body looks. By looking at your mother and father, you are able to tell how you will look when you get older. Your children should know that if they are “big boned” they should not try to lose weight, there’s really not much they can do. If your child is just aver weight, they may be able to lose the weight later on, but right now they should just focus in being active, having fun, and being a kid.

Skipping meals and eating lettuce-only meals would mean that you are supplying fewer nutrients to your body and you may get sick or your growth would be stunted. You may even develop serious conditions such as anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa. Anorexic people cannot tolerate any food. Each time they put food in their stomach, the body reacts and vomits the food. Anorexic people are dangerously thin because they are already starving. Bulimic people, on the other hand, deliberately throw up the food they have eaten.

Your child should not have to worry about losing weight to fit in with their peers. As a parent, you should not tell your child that they are fat and need to go on a diet, because this is not healthy for you or your child. Simply encourage them to become more active in what they. Any questions you or your child may have should be addressed in a timely manner with a doctor.
