Insomnia is a very common sleep disorder. Insomnia is caused by a variety of different reasons including stress, depression, anxiety, use of sleep medications for a long period of time, and even snoring. There is a cure for insomnia but before you try to cure it you must first know what causes it. There are more reasons for insomnia other than those previously listed.

Did you know that one out of every three people suffer from insomnia? This is a fact but does not mean that you suffer from insomnia just because your friends or family don’t suffer from it. Even though someone suffers from this sleep disorder there is a cure. Although it may take sometime to realize you are no longer suffering you will be cured.

You need to know the signs of insomnia before you can say you actually suffer from it. Signs include but are not limited to: fatigue, irritability, difficulty falling asleep, and difficulty staying asleep.

Now you should know the causes of insomnia. Signs of insomnia include but are not limited to: Stress, change in your environment, medical problems, snoring, and eating late at night.

Stress causes you to be unable to sleep at night because you have too many things on your mind. If you are unable to stop thinking about these things you will find it more difficult to fall asleep or stay asleep all night.

If you change your routine too much, such as a change in shift at work or traveling too much for a long period of time, you will disrupt your circadian rhythms, making it difficult to sleep when you want or need to most.

Many medical problems such as those which attack your nerves and muscles will cause you to have problems sleeping. This is due to the increased amount of brain waves you have during a night of sleep. This causes interference with a restful sleep.

Snoring also causes insomnia because you are trying to ignore the fact that your partner is keeping you awake. When you focus on this too much or for too long you become annoyed with the snoring, thus trying to block it out, when all you are doing is making it worse.

The last cause will touch base on is eating late at night. When you eat a meal too late you go to bed with a completely full stomach. Although, you should not go to bed hungry, you should try not to eat too late. This will cause physical discomfort while you are trying to sleep.

Now that you know and understand the symptoms and cause of insomnia, let’s talk about how you can cure yourself of this sleep disorder. Each of these recommendations should only be used if you are comfortable enough with your body and routine to try them. Remember if something doesn’t feel right, you should stop immediately.

Don’t spend too much time in bed. The more time you spend in bed the slower you day passes. If you get out of bed at the same time every morning you will begin to feel rejuvenated during the day, in turn making you feel drowsier at night. This will allow you to fall asleep easier than usual.

Don’t force yourself to fall asleep. If you feel as though you are tired yet you are unable to fall asleep, you should turn on the television or even ready a book or magazine until you feel as though you can fall asleep naturally.

Relax as whenever possible. If you work all day and begin to stress about your job, you should take time after work to relax. You may want to try soaking in a hot bath, taking a nice long hot shower, or even just sitting down with a nice book. Relaxation will help you to fall asleep with ease because your mind is not going ninety to nothing all the time.

Lastly, you should avoid taking mid-day naps. When you nap during the day your body’s clock resets. Although you may feel rested after your nap, when it comes time for bed you will feel less tired than you should be, thus keeping you awake at night. If you do feel the need to take a nap during the day put a limit on it. Don’t nap for hours on end, just nap for about an hour and you will feel rested until it comes time for bed.
