Diabetes is a disease that is caused by lack of insulin in the body and millions of people around the world have to deal with diabetes. Diabetes affects everyone around you, I know first hand because my father had diabetes for ten years before he passed away. Diabetics have to monitor their blood sugar and food intake at all times of the day to avoid going into what is called insulin shock.

Diabetics have to give up old habits they may have started before they were diagnosed with the life threatening disease, such as drinking, smoking, and junk food intake. They must also learn how to diet with ease without making it more stressful of themselves and their families.

If you are over weight or have an unhealthy diet, you risk the change of getting this disease. Starting a good, new diet will help you lower your chance of getting it, or help you maintain a healthy lifestyle if you do have it. Also, being very active and doing types of exercise will also help you in the long run.

The first step you should do is cut back on your sugar intake. Try not to eat as big a slice of cake as you would have before. Don’t eat anything that has a lot of sugar in it, this is not good for your body. Eating healthy will benefit you and the ones you love. The second step is to stop drinking alcohol, and cut back on smoking. These can only make the situation worse if not taken care of in a timely manner. Eating healthier can at times be hard for anyone to do and it will take time to get used to, you can do it, everyone has faith in you to do so, now all you need is the faith in yourself.

Take time to realize that you need to live a healthier lifestyle no matter how old you may be. If you are diabetic then take time to learn from it and educate others about how they should live and eat of they ever have to deal with it.

Diabetes should not make you want to stay in the house all day and not go out for fear of someone finding out you have it. No one has to know unless you want to tell them. Don’t let this stop you from having a long happy life with the ones you love and car for most. I know the idea of having diabetes is hard to get used to, and managing it may seem harder, but one thing I learned being around my father is that it can only bring you down if you let it.
