With many healthy and unhealthy food options available today, constipation still remains part of today's busy lifestyle. It's not unheard of for a healthy person to get short bouts of constipation every now and again. Regrettably, often temporary constipation can lead to extended fecal impaction. However, there is a good chance that even though you're eating healthy you may be getting constipated because of how you eat. Digestion starts with chewing properly, as within the chewing process enzymes start to breakdown nutrients. So, if you eat too quickly and don't properly chew, you could become constipated.

Choosing what you eat is critical in warding off constipation. If you have constipation more often than usual, you may be eating too much fat or sugar. You likely need more fiber and can get it through supplements and the addition of vegetables to your meals.

Proper hydration is a vital component of maintaining a healthy digestive system and avoiding fecal impaction. Remember, coffee and sodas don't properly hydrate. The main purpose of the digestive process is the increase of nutrients and the reduction of bodily waste. Thus, if you increase your fiber levels you must consequently increase your water consumption to avoid clogging your intestines.

People who eat a properly balanced diet may want to examine their vitamin intake. Many vitamins may consequently be the root constipation, even in safe doses. Iron supplements are the most notorious culprits.

Some choose to undergo a colon cleanse to stop constipation. However, it's not something to undergo without first consulting your doctor. Your doctor may rather you try to drink a glass of prune juice after every meal, instead of opting for a traditional colon cleanse.
