Microdermabrasion, Skin Care at it's Best

One of today's skin care treatments which has continued to grow in popularity is a procedure known as microdermabrasion. Simply put it can be described as facial sandblasting or facial vacuuming these descriptions refer to the two methods / functions of the microdermabrasion machine. Primarily the machine creates a circular air flow that forces aluminum oxide crystals to be blasted onto the skin's surface which are then sucked back up together with the resulting debris. The debris consists mainly of the crystals but includes dead and dying skin cells. The overall result is the removal of the very top layer of skin.

Microdermabrasion is a professional non-invasive cosmetic procedure which is considered entirely safe if/when it is performed by a suitably trained person. The painless process is actually rather simple and it is now possible to have the treatment at home using relatively cheap equipment (around $200). Though the results of home treatment are impressive the best benefits are gained if it is performed in a cosmetic clinic, beauty salon or spa.

Sometimes, immediately following a session, face can sometimes seem slightly reddened though this quickly subsides to leave a fantastically healthy glow. You will also notice that open pores will be noticeably reduced and, rather than looking dull and lifeless, your skin will look radiant with a pleasant sheen. Overall the look will be far more youthful than prior to the treatment and this will improve more with further treatments.

One of the most exciting benefits of microdermabrasion is gained by those people who suffer from acne. Sadly there is little scientific knowledge that is undisputable about acne but one thing is known, microdermabrasion can help reduce acne breakouts considerably! It is generally accepted that part of the development process of acne involves the formation of comedones (plugs found blocking pores in blackheads and whiteheads). By using microdermabrasion regularly you can reduce the number of comedones dramatically therefore reducing new acne lesion formation.

Acne can be devastating and the effects can only be fully understood by those who have suffered from the disease. Not only is it considered unsightly but it is also really painful and certainly uncomfortable at the best of times. It is little wonder that so many suffers also suffer from depression and for this reason the benefits, and importance, of microdermabrasion can not be understated for such people.

There are plenty of acne treatments available but the regime has to be specific to the person as not all work for all people and it is very much a case of trial and error. Fortunately microdermabrasion appears to work to great effect on virtually anybody who suffers from acne and, because of this, it is extremely popular as both a cure and a preventative treatment.

Many people find that after acne they are, sometimes, left with scarring. Luckily microdermabrasion can be very effective at removing (or vastly reducing the visibility of) acne scars. As well as removing acne scars it can also remove other skin blemishes and also have a profound effect upon freckles. However most people know of the treatment because of it's excellent reputation for being able to remove spider and fine lines together with fine wrinkles. It can also greatly reduce the visibility of deeper wrinkles.

Overall the most probable reason why microdermabrasion continues to be one of the most popular skin care treatments is that there are so many clearly visible benefits. Virtually everybody can benefit from the procedure in only a few sessions and, for this reason, it is likely to continue growing in popularity for some time to come yet.
