You've probably heard it this a hundred times and I bet everyone agree that bringing up children is one of the most hard job there is and no one in this world is totally armed on how to be a good parent. It seems like there is never enough time to prepare you to raise children. As certain as it is, your life do change from the day your child is born. Some of you may have read parenting skills book but trust me on this, parenting is not as easy as memorizing the words in a book. You learn as you go.

On the plus side, you will know that this is also the best and greatest job in the world even though it can really get onto your nerves at times. This piece of work will tell you more about parenting and make you more prepared for it and also for any situation that may arise.

Experts agree that it is important for parents to be consistent, setting limitations and give positive reinforcement to a child for the benefit of a good child development. Experts also suggested for us, adults, to give the child a growing environment that promote self improvement, self worth and self esteem. After so much that they said, it is now time to put what they taught us into good use.

As a parent, we always need to be like a professional, to not let any stress or unhappiness that is affecting us to let out on the children. Be like a professional meaning to put whatever unhappiness at that particular place be at that particular place, and never bring it any where else.

Well, many of us pick up parenting skills from the values that our parents thought and of course through our own observations and perceptions that we live by. We will then pass on these parenting skills to our children as they will adopt our methods. Bear in mind that this can have a negative effect on the child development if the parent was rise in a less ideal environment.

Someone who had a bad childhood can be trap in a vicious cycle if they do not recognize the faults and mistakes in it and learn some skills to correct and overcome the situation. It is best if parents were to identify patterns of abuse and neglect and take necessary measures to stop it from happening.

I would like to highlight two main points. Parents are often confused between punishment and discipline. Punishment is really a way of conquering the child physically. Although this shows improvement but this will scare the child and lead them to feelings of anger and fear. Discipline is much more empowering as it teaches the child the consequences of making a decision. This is a much healthier approached. Also this would prepare them as they grow older.

I can't stress this more than enough but parents should not be allowed to set great expectations that will burden the child's mentality or even create fear. All children have curious mind. It's their nature, let it grow and discover the world themselves. They should never be discouraged. Remember, forcing a child to do beyond their means is extremely damaging to a child's development.

Believe me, once you start to apply this. These are the best parenting skills that I can offer you. It is not as scary as it seems but being a good parent is definitely a challenging task. Keep your mind open and you would surprise with the results. Being a parent is about following your gut feeling and your heart. Everything else will come into place.
