The One Thing That Makes Your School Fundraiser Double in Sales

Going to school used to be all about learning and studies. Today, however, it includes many other activities and "fun" events as well. But these special events and activities cost money. With cuts is school budgets for many schools and school districts the only option they have to pay for these events is for the school to raise the money in some sort of fundraising event.

It is fundraising that many consider to be like the "third rail" in the New York City subway. It is either viewed positively, as the energizer to make things go or it is the thing everyone wants to shy away from. A properly run fundraiser on the other hand is a blessing to all. There really is no reason why the school staff and volunteers, parents of the students and the community at large should dread the coming of the school fundraising drive. If the product that is chosen is right, the incentives for the students and teachers are worthwhile, the entire process will be enjoyed by all.

Fundraisers that are view negatively are usually ones that are done for just a small segment of the school. For instance, if you are having a school wide fundraiser that most of the money raised is used for the 5th grade field trip, 80% of the school is being left out. Unless something is done to make it worth their while, you'll have allot of unhappy kids and parents.

Have you ever noticed that there always seems to be one or two schools in your district that have better success in fundraising than others. You can even have two schools in very similar neighborhoods that have vastly different results even when doing very similar fundraising programs. What makes the difference? It's not the products being sold or the neighborhood that makes that difference between those schools. It's "How" those schools run their sale that makes more difference than any other factor in the outcome.

An example of this fact is Raymond Case Elementary in Sacramento, California. They have over 800 students and had never had a sale over $27,000. Last year, by making a change in the way they ran their sale they had over $52,000 in sales! All they did was change the way they did their fundraiser from all the years before. It wasn't the product and they didn't suddenly have a bunch of rich people move into their neighborhood. They just made a simple change in "How" they went about their fundraiser.

What was even more interesting than the jump in their fundriaser profits was that this school had always had a problem finding volunteers to help with the fundraiser. The teachers at the school had never offered their help on any aspect of their fundraiser. That year, they had to turn away teachers and parents who volunteered on delivery day because they had more than enough to handle it.

All that came because they chose to run their sale differently than they had been doing it all those years previous. Napoleon Hill once said, "You can get everything you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want." That is the basis for changing the fundraising environment at your school.
