Importance of Backup Files

As we all know, computers are capable of having a mid life crisis just as much as we are. When this happens to your computer you should be prepared. Backup files are the way to go when it comes to a fear of your computer crashing.

Without backup files you can lose everything you have been working on the minute your computer takes that flying leap. There are many reasons why your computer will crash taking everything down with it. These reasons can be anything from a virus to the age of the computer and power surges.

Top reasons to backup your files

Viruses are one of the biggest concerns of computer owners and users today. Viruses can get down deep in the heart of your computer and take it for all it has got. To avoid viruses you should scan your computer with anti-virus software regularly. Make sure that any floppy disks, CD's and flash drives that you may put in your computer are free of any viruses. Double check all e-mails sent and received, if you are not expecting an attachment from a sender do not open it. If you send an attachment to a person make sure they are aware you are sending the file.

Power surges are another reason you should backup any files that you may need to refer to at a later date. When the weather is bad you are at a higher risk of a power surge. Even though you may have your computer and computer accessories plugged into a surge protector you are still at risk. Once the power goes out your files can be lost and once a file is lost you have very little chance of retrieving that file.

The biggest reason I recommend backing up files is, in a nut shell, Murphy’s Law, if anything can go wrong it will. When it comes to this it really doesn’t matter how “big and bad” your computer is. Even if it is top of the line equipment you can still have problems with it. Eventually your computer will give up and take your work files with it.

Make sure that you are saving and backing up all your files so you will be able to retrieve them if anything ever happens to your computer.
