Flash drives are meant to hold large files that need to be transferred from one computer to another. These flash drives are made to hold up to 2GB of data this is equivalent to over 1000 floppy disks.

Flash drives are easier to use than an extinct floppy disk or a CD. This is due to the size of the flash drive being small enough to put on your key ring or in your pocket. Floppy disks and CD require a carrying case and must be handled with care. Once you get to the computer in which you are loading the files, you must format the disks, but with a flash drive all you do is plug it in and go.

What are flash drives used for?

Flash drives can be used to store important information such as work files, school research papers, pictures, and even music files. You may also use your flash drive to create back up files for any of your important data, this will be helpful if your computer crashes and you lose the original documents.

What to look for in a flash drive

When you purchase a flash drive for your personal use, you should find one that is right for you. There are a couple different sizes which will also have different amounts of storage. If you need a flash drive for large files such as pictures, music, or back up files you may want to go with a flash drive with more storage space. This will keep your files from being lost due to too much information stored on the flash drive.

If you will use your flash drive less often and with smaller files you could purchase a smaller flash drive that would be right for your specific needs. Although the smaller flash drive is a little less expensive than the larger one, the choice is yours but you never know how much storage space you will need until you are out of space.

When you save the necessary information on your new flash drive, be sure you remove the drive properly. Follow any and all prompts on your computer and be sure to read the instructions included in the packaging.

Flash drives are available at any computer store or retail store. Some places may be more expensive than others. So be sure to shop around and find the one that is right for you.
