The word promotion is said to be one of the 4P's of the marketing mix. In the dictionary, it means activities done in order to increase the sales of a product or service.

Usually when sales are down and the marketing department wishes to increase sales, promotional gifts are introduced which may be in the form of gifts. And also promotion in the form of gifts is one of best ways to advertise for a company. The other such forms of promotional items could be; memorabilia, souvenirs, mementos, and even monograms.

The benefits of promotional gifts are numerous. Some of these are mentioned below:

1. Advertising - Advertising by means of promotional gifts is one of the best ways for a business to advertise.

2. Future goals - Promotional gifts can beneficially help with the materialization of future goals.

In general promotional gifts are of three kinds:

1) Pens - Pens are practical and are a daily necessity. It reminds the customer of meeting with the sales representative of the organization. Pens do not cost much money to buy and people will tend to use them more often than not and hence be reminded of the company time and again.

2) Magnets - This is second most popular choice as a promotional gift. They are also inexpensive and economical. Having a customer put up a magnet on his or her refrigerator equals to putting up a miniature billboard in ones house. They have higher visibility than pens do.

3) Drink ware - Mugs! Who can forget them? Their use as a promotional gift is still important which is why it gets third place on the list of promotional gifts. However, even water bottles now have a promotional function. Promotional drink ware is used on a daily basis whether it is coffee mugs or water bottles and they have the highest visibility when compared to pens and magnets.

The range of promotional gifts not only limited to these three types. Marketing people have become creative and have come up with a verity of other promotional gifts.

A company needs to consider promotional gifts in the above mentioned forms in order to retain old customers and attract new customers. Another thing is that these 3 forms of promotion gifts can be used altogether or one at a time depending on the company's situation. Promotional gifts are by far the best means of advertising for a company. Promotional gifts please consumers as because we all give each other gifts more often than not and the promotional gifts are the least a company can give to customers.

You just have to select the one you think is most lucrative and order it through the contacts. The company will deliver the items at your doorsteps. Other good way of purchasing promotional gifts is searching the yellow pages. A lot of proportional companies offer to sell the items through advertisement in the yellow pages.
