A Guide to Non-Surgical Face Lifts

Non-surgical facelifts are often considered instead of the more dramatic and possibly dangerous surgical option when it comes to looking younger. Not only are they often a cheaper option, but have the advantage of having a much shorter recovery time. These methods often include chemicals or injections so a less drastic method could be the natural face lift option.

A surgical face lift costs, on average, 3,000/$6000 for just the procedure, there are usually more ancillary costs to be taken into account as well. You will need a fairly long time to recover from the operation and, as with any surgical procedure, there are risks involved. This is why many people explore the non-surgical face lifting route first. Although the non-surgical face lift is normally less invasive than surgery, they usually do not last as long, except for facial exercises which will last as long as you keep doing them. However, for those who have minor skin blemishes, the non-surgical route can also help to remove or at least, modify any imperfections, depending on the procedure that is chosen. The non-surgical face lift is available in a variety of very different methods, some more invasive than others. Those require injections are not risk free and the long term effects have yet to be seen. The costs involved will depend on the method chosen and how much needs to be done.

The first thing people think about when you talk about non-surgical face lifting is Botox. This is possibly the most popular form of face lifting. It works by being injected into certain facial muscles which then relax and get paralysed so that they don't move. This means that your skin won't crease or wrinkle and gives it a younger look. You will need to decide how many injections you need which normally cost approximately 100/$200 per shot. The great thing is that after the injections, it only takes an hour or so for the swelling to subside so you could even get them done in your lunch hour and look fantastic for that evening date. You will not need any further shots for between 3 to 6 months. Each person will be different. Only those who are taking anti-biotics are exempt from this treatment, but will be eligible once they have finished their medication.

Another popular option that also requires needles is the collagen injection. Collagen, which is part of the skins' structure, is injected into the affected areas. It fills out the skin which is why it is also known as filler, making it smooth and younger looking. There are several different types of fillers which can be used so it is worth talking to your cosmetic surgeon about the options available. The cost of the injections will depend on the type of filler used. As many of the substances used are natural, they get absorbed into the body, the individual rate of absorption will dictate how many treatments you need in a year.

The last of the major non-surgical lifting techniques is one that removes layers of skin. There are several different methods, 'sand blasting' with diamond powder, called microdermabrasion, burning with laser light, and applying a chemical peel. These all work well in removing the first few layers that will contain a lot of the lines on the face, making the skin younger and glowing with health. These treatments, which cost from 75/$150 to over 1000/$2000, can last a year or more. For those with deeper lines and wrinkles, there is dermabrasion, some may argue that this is in fact a surgical procedure as a general anaesthetic is involved and there can be a lengthy recovery time. This removes the layers of skin to a lot deeper level so the effect is longer lasting.

You will also find a wide variety of face lift creams on the market that are said to reduce the signs of ageing. Each has it's own particular formula that will work on your skin. There is no right one, only the one that works best for your particular type of skin. You may have to try a couple before you find the one you are completely satisfied with.

When it comes to the safest, cheapest and probably most longest lasting type of non-surgical face lift, you cannot beat a set of well designed facial exercises. The key here is well designed as there many different facial exercises around and some may even increase your wrinkles. Ideally look for those that are isometric as they really improve the muscle and skin tone of your face. There is a misconception that they take a long time to do. Not really so. The first stage may require some time and effort but after a couple of weeks you only need a couple of minutes per day and that can be dome when you apply your skin cream. This natural face lift method can also be beneficial both pre and post operation if you are determined to have some other form of lifting as it gets your face into better shape for any further work.

Finally, if you do wish to have use some of the non-surgical face lifts that use injections or chemicals, always talk it over with your doctor first. When looking for a cosmetic surgery, always choose one that is a member of an association that is acknowledged by the local authority or medical profession. That way you will have some protection in the unlikely event of things going wrong. The personal recommendation is valuable as at least you know somebody who has been there, had the treatment and is a satisfied customer.
